Pride Protest Party
Typeface Design, Visual Identity, Web & Editorial Design
Pride Protest Party was my major Masters project at the Glasgow School of Art. The project explores the topic of 'pinkwashing'— a practise whereby companies promote gay-friendliness in an attempt to benefit or to downplay any negative aspects of the company. I formed a group and designed the visual identity with the intention of attending Pride parades and broadcasting the message that a) Pride originated as a protest, and b) if companies are supporting the LGBTQ community during Pride month, this support must be genuine. To communciate this message I created a typeface that draws elements from both protest and party, and used this typeface on placard signs and banners featuring phrases such as *insert rainbow here* to pillory empty corporate gestures at Pride.
